As with training there are options available when it comes to
ECDL testing. All testing must take place at an accredited ECDL test centre. All tests
should be completed within a three year-period from the date of the first test attempt.
Testing types
Automated Testing
Many centres use an automated testing system, a computer-based assessment that provides immediate pass/fail feedback to both the test centre and the candidate. Automated testing streamlines the administration procedures for test centres and ensures unparalleled quality. Automated testing for ECDL Syllabus 5 is be provided by ICS Skills. Manual Testing
When an organisation becomes accredited to run ECDL Tests, they are given access to
the manual QTB (Question and Test Base). This is given to centres under strict security
guidelines and operating procedures.
Under this mode of testing, candidates receive a test paper, and work files which
they edit and modify as required.
Only accredited ECDL testers may mark the papers and give feedback to the candidates.
There is a bank of tests for each module and candidates sit a randomly selected test.
The pass mark is 75% for all modules.
After successful completion of each module test, the skills card is stamped and signed.
Sample papers are available which will afford the candidates the opportunity to prepare
for the test, showing the type of questions to expect and the language used.
If a candidate fails a module they may sit a repeat test, as scheduled by the ECDL
test centre.
ECDL tests are vendor neutral..
